Shortly before she was to graduate from her school, Wyverley College in Ancelstierre, a Dead servant of her father's gave her his bells and his sword. By her father's wishes, Sabriel grew up in Ancelstierre after living a few years in the Old Kingdom with her father.

She is a powerful Charter Mage, as well as the 53rd Abhorsen (her father Terciel was 52nd and her half-sister Lirael will be 54th). She is the Mother of Prince Sameth and Princess Ellimere, as well as the wife of King Touchstone. She is also a key (if minor) character in Lirael and Abhorsen.
Sabriel is the main (and titular) character of the first book in the series of the 'Old Kingdom Series', Sabriel.
